FlashFiction

http://www.flashfictiononline.com/f20080702-strive-to-be-happy-david-tallerman.html The following link is from a flash fiction story entitled "Strive to be Happy" I chose this story because of the simple fact we all strive to be happy in some way shape or form whether it's having a good job, relationship, or within our minds we all want to be happy. There are obstacles that will stand in our way sometimes from that happiness and that is what this story is about having a obstacles (In this case a person) standing in the way of being happy. This story is about a boy and a girl who lives together and seemed to be in some sort of argument. Things get ripped of walls and someone is called stupid and in the end the girl leaves and has not from a poem by Max Ehrmann that says "Be cheerful. Strive to be Happy" I like this story for the reason that it includes the poem at the beginning, and if you think about it this was a apology in a sorts because when we argue we say stupid things that we don't really mean most of the time and since we are so intent on being right using the words of other people are the best way apologise In the world we live in it's very easy to forget how to be happy I not saying that after reading this you will get a little happier, but it will open your mind especially since it's almost Christmas time like I said in past blogs if we can be unified and happier this world will be a better place to live in until the next time...

Hairstyles of the Damned review

Hairstyles of the Damned has to deal how teenagers in the 1990's have to deal with many trails when it comes to sex, relationships, family issues, racism and being made fun of. I think this is a very good book not only do you feel the emotion coming from the characters it kind of hits to home for me. Like Brian Oswald, one of the main characters in the story, I am a quite person who will always look out for his friends and will do stupid things to impress girls that I have no chance of dating (the Cinemax movies really hit home too) and even though I don't have a friend that I have a secret crush on I do have a change in my music style and also a change in my attitude. To sum the book up Hairstyles of the Damned is like 90210, but take place in Chicago and more fighting is involved. This story reminds me of an independent movie I seen staring James Duval (I think that's how you spell his last name) also the Chris Night (Peter Brady) is in the film if you know the name of the movie please tell me anyway the story revolves around a teen boy and his friends which has a similar ending to this story. I will highly recommend this book not because it's taking place in Chicago, not because bands list AC/DC are mentioned, but because of the message in the story what to know what that message is? You have to read the book. Until the next time...

Meeting Bigger Thomas

If I had the chance to meet Bigger Thomas in real life I would tell him about the inexcusable decision that he made by killing Mary. I know that he would say that it was an accident and he was scared, but I would was how is ever killing someone an accident? If you were doing something that you really didn't have any reason of doing in the first place then be a man and take the consequences that follow. Bigger might say that it is hard for him because he is an African American then I will tell Bigger so am I look have to look past the people who belittle you because of your skin color use that hatred into something positive like motivating yourself to get a good job and supporting your family. There will always be people around who want you to fail both of different and the same color if you can succeed you will be telling all of those people I did it no matter how much you said I wouldn't I proved you wrong. Then I will ask Bigger what if this happen to you how would you feel if your loved one was killed and the killer acted like he could care less? That is what I would say to Bigger if he was a real person in my opinion Bigger just needed a positive friend to keep him on the right path I know that his mom and Mr.Max tried, but sometimes a good friend is needed in order for you to have a stable mind. until the next time....

My thoughts on the Harlem poem

What Happen to a dream deferred?

That's how the poem Harlem starts out and when I think about that it means what happened to reaching the American dream? For some it is easy because the fourtunate few are born in it, or get a good education and will attain the dream through hard work. for other like Bigger for Native Son, it's hard because of the racial divide that was going on during that time. Deferring a dream also has to deal with surroundings if you live in a positive surrounding chances are you will succeed, but if you live in a negative area like bigger did living in a one room apartment with 3 other people and having not so good friends chances of having the American dream come true is very slim. It's makes me sad that people like bigger struggled like this and even though this nation does not discriminate as much it's still hard for people to reach a dream because the "Higher Ups" will look down on the less fortunate . I have said this many times if we can come together as human beings they nothing in the world can stop us and that includes reaching the American Dream.

Vignette Time!

OK for this journal I have to write a vignette good I think this should be very interesting indeed, but instead of writing one I will write three. The first one based off Sandra Cisnoero's Boys & Girls story describing who I am, the second telling of the name I would give myself and that's coming from Cisnoero's Story and the Third is one I will make up. I see Vignettes done all the time in pro wrestling they are called promos now let's see if I can do it.

Who I am: I am a bird who has not learn to fly yet trying to find his purpose and meaning in the world, I am a person who can be your greatest friend or your worst enemy I am like a fox cunning and eager and will always approach with caution when it comes to the unknown, but I do have a passion a passion that burns within me greater and higher than any Phoenix would ever dream of I will make the most of the opportunities given to me and excel beyond any human expectations I will strike like lightning if need be if danger arrives, but for the most part I just me.

My New Name: If I had the choice to name myself (even though I like my name) I would have to choose the name Milardo. I got this name from a show I used to watched called Gundam Wing and in this show Milardo was a solider in war but he had to leave his country and his sister as well to go in this war, but Milardo always stayed concerned about her and his country even if he wasn't there. He also was loyal to his commanders that were of a higher and lower rank. He called himself a warrior many times (Thus why I call myself that) even if the odds were stacked against him somehow he overcame them by never giving up and pushing forward even if that means certain death in order to obtain one goal peace. I can respect that in a person that' s why I think that name would be great for me. If you want to see how Milardo look follow the link and if you were wondering he is inside of his robot or (mobile suit in the show) call the tallgeese IIIhttp://www.staats.us/sonle/milliardo_cockpit2.jpg

and now for my final vignette which I call the guiding light

The Guiding Light: For a few years now there has been lots of bloodshed, people losing their homes, peace of mind and money that was being saved for the future the nation has been in darkness for quite some time and hope was surely on the decline with each passing day. There is no were left to run or hide we have to take a stand and fight again, but we need something to unite us and show us the correct way on the path towards victory. That path was chosen earlier this week when Barack Obama became the nation's 44th president. Now Barack you must be our guiding light and show us to victory make this country great again help ease the souls and minds of the lost and show them that change has come. Whether you voted for the man or not give him a chance all of us have to be United if we want to come out of the darkness no more antagonizing or petitions of impeachment (if your are one of the ignorant people I am talking about) lets stand tall once again and make even more history and the guiding light will so us the way and mend the broken fences that this country surely needs.

I know the ending was a little weak, but I am running out of things to say so until the next time...

Diversity and Me

Diversity has to deal with the tolerance and expecting of different cutlers, religions, and ways of life portraying to a group of individuals. In this day and age our world SEEMS to by diverse you see it while working with others, competing against each other in the Olympics, dating (some cases), children who are half one race and half another race, and even on this crayola Multicultural crayon box see linkhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/squidly/20353966/ and think about the person's first comment what about that picture makes the person want to throw up?, but if you ask me there is still a gap between cultures. Whether is assuming the following stereotypes that a Asians know martial arts, all Latin are bad drivers, and all African Americas listen to rap music of course the answer is no, but that how these races are shown in the eyes of the media which I will talk about at a later date, but going back to my point we are not as diverse as we think and that was the case of me. I thought I would have a open view about anyone and anything, but I can say I have a weakness for people with special needs I am not trying to offend anyone with my comments this is just how I feel when I was younger I had a boy in my class names Jose he was a cool kid the only problem that I had was he didn't have any fingers on his right hand and that freaked me out especially when I had to sit next to him I never got over that feeling and when I would go to a store and see people with missing limbs I would go nuts. I know that this was a fear or anxiety that I had to get over, but I still freak out a little bit when I see a person with missing limbs, but instead of realizing what I take for granted I make fun of I talk about how useless these kinds of people are and they are just looking for someone to feel sorry for them, but some of these people who lost these limbs fought in wars defending my freedom others lost them in accidents and some were just born like that. I can say that going into the medical field which I planing to do I will see tons of people with these types of problems and it will be my job to help them I don't have the time to judge them or make fun of them I have to be the man and assist the needs of the person in need of assistant. I have to be like Phoenix Jackson from "A Worn Path"and keep going towards my goal I can't have a one sided mind like the father and son of "My son the Fanatic" I will become more diverse and help out other no matter how that person might look because who knows I might lose a limb myself one day and might need someones help. Until the next time....

Sorting People

Playing the race sorting game was very interesting to say the least. I thought just by looking at someone nine times out of ten you could tell what his or her race is and after playing that game I see that is not the case. I got 10 people out of the 20 people that were featured (I have to count the boxes again, but I think it was 20 people) and out of the 20 I got 1 white, 2 Latin, 3 Black, 4 Asians, and 0 American Indians. I knew I messed up on one person and I couldn't change my answer, but that's OK. After my results were calculated the following quote was said "Appearance doesn't always tell you about someones ancestry or self density" and that couldn't ring anymore true. This made me recall something that happen to me once in the Orland Park mall I had to be 8 or 10 at the time and was looking for my mom while walking a little girl who had to be 5 or younger was walking with her dad and when she saw me she ask her dad why did I look different ( I guess she never saw a person of a different race before) and the dad said that everyone looks different and I just smiled when he said that because he was right. I cannot stand when people are judge by his or her color and because or how society portrays certain races we tend to believe that's how all races are I really hope that this view point of race can change especially now because this country might be on the verge of having it's first Mixed race president in Barack Obama who is half black and half white we will just have to wait and see the answer to that in just a few short days, but back to the race game it was fun to see how I did I just wonder why I got all of the Asians right and not my own race that I have to do research on. until the next time.....

The Most Violent Movie of the Year?

Notes from the Underground is a movie about a man who may (or may not) have an illness before this man dies he wants to tell the world his story even though his story has to deal with being depressed, trying to find one's self, and ultimately helping others. I think this was a great film because it had a good mix of comedy and hard hitting reality. After reading the review from Box Office Magazine I have to say the person agrees with me with the comedy part, but the author goes by saying that this is the most violent movie of the year (well it was out a few years ago, but I think you get the idea) I have to so I don't think so. "Nothing is as violent as the violence of the mind" that's a quote from the person who wrote this I have to say that is not true every person in the would will have or has had a violent thought run through his or her mind that's normal were humans and it's a survival thing we might think violently, but that does not mean we will do violent things even thought the are expectations to my point I call my self a "warrior, but that doesn't mean I'm going around with a sword or ninja weapons beating up people. The main character in this movie did have violent thoughts, but he never did anything violent at least to some guys he was not violent to say this is a violent movie is a bunch of bull because there are way more violent thing out in the world like some of these video games that have you beating some one to death with a pipe or killing cops. If we could censor that I bet that crime among youth would go down, but that is a different topic for another day. Being spiteful is another thing that the main character goes through even when he helping a person who is going through the same thing he his he hurts her and if you didn't see the movie I will not spoil it for you but back to my point having a little spite is OK it might make you be a jerk to some people, but in order to get someone to stop making noise in order to study or to calm a person down you need to show a little tough love I do this all the time and it always works (it probably will not anymore because I said it does all the time) I think that the underground man was spiteful, but if he didn't have that the movie would have lost it's meaning so next time Mr. Movie review person if you think a movie is too violent because a person is sharing his true feelings then you need to look up what the world violent means in the dictionary until the next time...

Alienation

Alienation, a world that means (according to answers.com) "The wrongful or injurious act of interfering with an affectionate relationship so that one person loses affection of the other." In other words talking about or humiliating a person so badly that the person will take that anger out on a loved one. Every one has been or will be alienated through out a person's life time it's as normal as breathing, but it doesn't have to get you down some people use it as fuel to a burning desire to prove a point others will try to get revenge on the person who alienated them or in the case of Jackson Pollock and Arther Robins make art out of it. See that picture with the black and white on it? that is called Number 1 by Jackson Pollock some would not consider this art because to be honest a kid in kindergarten can do that, but to me this picture is showing how the world really in black and white what I mean by that is the world is without direction too much "It's all about me" kind of attitude we as human beings argue over the most dumbest things and I think this picture personify that the world is truly a gray place you have a certain type of group on one side of the world and a totally different group on the other side. In my opinion the only time that all nations and people united is when something fun like the Olympics happen or when something bad like a supernatural event like a devastating earthquake etc happens and that is sad. We are the most dominating species on this planet and if we can become truly united not just this country but all nations then nothing can get in our way and the useless things like poverty, wars, and alienation could stop, but in order for that to happen every person on this planet has to be open minded and that is another challenge in it's self. Until the next time....

The Role of the Artist

Art and literature have much in common they both express and tell stories of how the artist or publisher feels at that very moment. Many of the great things in life are from depressing, heroic, tragic, or blissful happenings in the world when I look at the painting of The Scream I see that Edvard Munch was in a dark place in his mind at the time maybe he was depressed or out on his luck, the man screaming is crying out for help I believe that he needs a person or people to lift him out of his dark world and show him that there is kindness in the world. Moving on to the next painting of The Dead Mother show a little boy or girl (I can't really tell) confused as the kid's mom has passed away. As in the Scream the kid in need of help, but who can actually fill the void of a mother? The last picture is tell a story of isolation in the painting Evening on Karl Johan show a group of well dressed people walking on the side walk the you see a figure walking in the street isolated in darkness I believe that this figure is lonely and needs someone to talk to. What do all these paintings have to do with a kafkaesque mood as I said before they all tell a story of how Edvard is feeling for the most part isolated and sad if compared to A Hunger Artist both the characters in the story and characters in the paintings are both looking for the someone to pull him or her out of that dark, sad, lonely, and isolated world because it only takes one person to do it. Every one gets to that point in life few can express it in a way too make others feel better and to me that is having the heart of a warrior. Go White Sox!!!
